Senior women's basketball standout Britt Themann was selected as the Tulane University Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year, while baseball player Michael Aubrey received a pair of accolades at the Tulane Varsity Ball held Monday night at the Radisson Hotel New Orleans. The banquet recognized student-athletes from each of Tulane's 14 sports as well as 52 seniors.

Themann, a senior from Seattle, Wash., is Tulane's all-time leader in three-point field goal percentage and played on four NCAA tournament teams during her time in New Orleans. The exercise science major owns a 3.95 grade point average and plans to attend medical school. She was not able to attend Monday's event as she was in Key West, Fla. to interview as one of three finalists for the NCAA's Walter Byers Scholarship.

Aubrey, a junior from Shreveport, La., is batting .434 for Tulane's nationally-ranked baseball team. He leads Conference USA with 58 RBI in 2003 and was named USA Baseball Man of the Year in 2002. A finance major, Aubrey owns a 3.10 grade point average.

In addition to the Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor, Aubrey was named Tulane's Male Athlete of the Year while record-breaking volleyball standout Britney Hurst earned the Female Athlete of the Year honor from the T-Club, Tulane's letterwinners organization. Senior soccer player Emily McArthur was presented with the Director's Award by Tulane athletic director Rick Dickson for her dedication, scholarship, community service efforts and service to Tulane Athletics as president of Tulane's Student-Athlete Advisory Board.

"We are excited to be able to have an event to recognize the contributions of our student-athletes, both on the court and in the classroom," Dickson said. "Britt (Themann), Michael (Aubrey), Emily (McArthur) and Britney (Hurst) are all wonderful representatives of Tulane University and our athletics program. They are all very deserving of their awards." In addition to the department-wide awards, the head coaches of Tulane's 14 varsity sports presented their team awards on Monday. Four different student-athletes repeated as Most Valuable Player for their respective sports - Colleen Lake (Soccer), Chris Wheeler (Men's Golf), Gwen Slaughter (Women's Basketball) and Carolin Landmann (Women's Golf).
