Green Wave Practices at Superdome for First Time in 2003 season
The
Tulane
University football team had its first indoor practice of the year on Monday at the Louisiana Superdome after which head coach Chris Scelfo announced the team’s 2003 captains, as voted by the players.
This year’s team captains are all seniors as quarterback
J.P. Losman
and running back
Mewelde Moore
were elected to lead the offense and defensive linemen Daniel Nevil and
Terrence Tarver
were elected defensive captains. Losman and Moore were also captains last season.
“These four guys have all taken different paths to reach the highest award a player can achieve,” Scelfo said. “To be voted a team captain by your peers is a great honor.”
The Green Wave, which annually practices in the Superdome - it's home field - shortly after closing preseason camp, played a mock game in its home stadium. In a spirited atmosphere, the team gave good effort and showed excellent enthusiasm according to Scelfo. The team simulated everything it would experience next Monday in its opening game, including locker room meetings, stretching, pre-game warm-ups and game situations, as well as the coaching staff testing head sets and sideline communications.
As the program adjusts to its regular season weekly schedule, Scelfo will host his first weekly press conference of the 2003 season on Tuesday morning at the Wilson Center. The players will practice for the final time on a non-class day at 2 p.m. as Tulane classes begin on Wednesday.
The Green Wave opens the 2002 season against
TCU
on Monday (Labor Day) evening at 7 p.m. at the Louisiana Superdome. The game will be nationally-televised by ESPN. Season tickets are still available for the entire six-game schedule while individual game tickets can also be purchased. For further information, call 504-861-WAVE.
