Turnovers Tulane Nemesis In 87-58 Road Loss To UAB

TURNOVERS AGAIN PROVE TO BE GREEN WAVE NEMESIS Season-High 29 Turnovers Leads to 87-58 Loss to UAB BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A season-high 29 turnovers gave Tulane University little chance of battling back on the road against UAB as the Green Wave lost 87-58 to the Blazers in Conference USA men’s basketball action on Saturday evening at Bartow Arena.

Tulane (9-16, 3-11 C-USA) had turnovers by nine different players in the game, including four players with four or more miscues. UAB (18-9, 8-6) capitalized on the Tulane mistakes by scoring 39 points off turnovers.

“Turnovers,” Tulane coach Shawn Finney said. “UAB is a team that makes you play fast and presses you all game, but our turnovers did not come against the full-court press. They came in the halfcourt and were the result of a lack of focus.”

The Green Wave was led by junior Quincy Davis, who scored 13 points, while senior Marcus Kinzer added 10. Freshman Robinson Louisme came off the bench to score a career-best seven points.

A Kinzer three-pointer with 6:58 to go in the first half pulled Tulane within one at 24-23, but the turnovers kicked into full gear at that point. UAB attacked relentlessly, creating a 32-9 run which made the score 56-32 with 13:07 to go.

“We had a letdown at the end of the first half,” Finney said. “And it continued into the second half. We just couldn’t get anything going.”

UAB was led by Demario Eddins who scored 25 points, including the 1000th point of his collegiate career. Donell Taylor added 17 points and Derrick Broom came off the bench to score 10.

Tulane plays its next game on the road at Cincinnati on Wednesday. The final regular season game and the final home game of the year will be Saturday, March 5 against East Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 504-861-WAVE.
