Quincy Davis
had 17 points and 11 rebounds for 12th-seeded
Tulane
(10-18), but the Green Wave, fell to the DePaul Blue Demons, 81-71, in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament at the FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.
A pair of freshmen,
David Gomez
and
Taylor Rochestie
, added 16 and 13 points respectively for Tulane. Rochestie was good on 4-9 from the floor, including 3-of-8 from three-point range.
Tulane ends its season with losses in six of its final seven games. The Green Wave managed to defeat
East Carolina
77-71 last Saturday at home in Fogleman Arena in order to qualify for the tournament.
br> DePaul was led by Sammy Mejia with 18 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds. Meji converted on 8-of-11 shots from the floor.
Quemont Greer added 18 points and grabbed six boards for the fifth-seeded Blue Demons (19-9), who managed to keep the Green Wave off the scoreboard for the game's first 4:49.
The Demons snapped a two-game losing streak and now move on to face
UAB
, the tournament's fourth-seed in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
DePaul controlled the game at the half 46-32, after taking an early 14-point lead.
A 15-4 Tulane surge made things interesting in the second half to cut the Demon lead to eight at 69-61. However, DePaul answered the run quickly and went back up by double-digits and cruised to the relatively easy 10-point win.
The Blue Demons also got 14 points from Drake Diener and 10 points from Draelon Burns.
