D'Anthony Smith Set To Visit Tulane, Cajuns
Tulane Insider caught up with Pickering High head football coach James Marcantel Monday evening. Here's what Coach Marcantel had to say about his prized prospect.
TI: Coach, which schools are most interested in D'Anthony?
JM: A lot of people are interested: Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Tulane. They've all offered
TI: Has D'Anthony made any visits so far?
JM: He visited Monroe and Tech. He's going to Lafayette next weekend. He's got Tulane on the 20th.
TI: Coach Marcantel, what's D'Anthony's academics like?
JM: He's a good student. Just made the Academic All-State team. He's got an 18 ACT on his first try and a 3.2 core GPA.
TI: What about height, weight?
JM: He's 6-foot-3, 312-pounds. He's not soft. He's not a flabby 300 either, he's got a flat belly.
TI: Coach, what kind of player is he?
JM: He'd be hard to compare to another player. He's very quick and explosive, he can go in the gym and jump up and hang on the rim. He was the state champ in the shotput, and that takes quickness. He's got some explosiveness.
TI: What about his strength numbers?
JM: We don't do the flat bench press, we do the incline bench press. He benches around 315-320-pounds on the incline.
TI: Coach, where do you think Tulane stands right now with D'Anthony?
JM: I guess they have as good a chance as anyone. A lot of people were surprised when he visited Tech and didn't commit. Tulane's recruiting him really hard. Coach Mahoney's been here quite often.
