DeRochemont Says Commitment To Tulane Solid

"Yes, I'm still solid. Things are going good," he said. "I talked to Coach Toledo about my official visit. They've got a big recruiting weekend set and that's when I'm going to visit. I think the date's January 13th.

Tulane Insider had a brief chat with Darren DeRochemont, the punter/kicker from Armwood High School in Seffner, Fla., who verbally committed to the Green Wave before the coaching change.

In the wake of a coaching change, a prospect's commitment can waver and wander. Here's what Darren had to say.

DeRochemont continued, "Greg Davis is my position coach, we've been talking nearly every week and we've gotten to be friends. He's told me that most likely I'll punt and kickoff at Tulane."

And in the subject of his performance his senior season, here's what Darren had to say. "I guess with field goals I was 7-for-7, my longest was 45 yards. We had a brand new snapper, he was nervous some of the time, I guess I made 40, 45 extrapoints, I'm not sure. We scored a lot."

"Punting," he continued. "I averaged 45 or 46 yards punting, but I only punted about 20 times. We scored a lot."

"With kickoffs," he went on. "I used a 1" tee, the same as in college. I guess I averaged 65-70 yards per kickoff. I usually kicked the ball to the uprights."

Darren DeRochemont looks to share the kicking duties with Tulane's Ross Thevenot the next few seasons. Tulane Insider had a brief chat with Darren DeRochemont, the punter/kicker from Armwood High School in Seffner, Fla., who verbally committed to the Green Wave before the coaching change.
