In the second half the Green Wave led by as many as 19 points before Richmond rallied to cut the lead to 4 before Puckett pulled the Greenie's bacon from the frying pan by scoring 5 points in the closing minutes, as the Wave fought off the Spider's rally.
Richmond did cut the Tulane lead to 4 points in the final minutes, but could come no closer.
The Spiders were led by Brian Morris who scored 12 points despite going 3-of-8 from the floor. David Gonzalvez and Peter Thomas scored 10 points each for the Spiders.
Tulane was hot early, hitting 14 of 22 of their shots from the floor in the first half to build a 40-24 halftime lead. For the night the Green Wave hit 56.1 percent of their shots from the floor. The Wave hit 45 percent from beyond the arc, although senior Chris Moore hit only one of his six three-point attempts.
Richmond struggled offensively all night, shooting just 37.7 percent for the night.
Tulane went to the foul line 36 times, hitting 24 of their attempts. Richmond hit 16 of their 25 shots from the charity stripe.
The Green Wave will return to the hardwood on New Year's Day, with a visit to UNO at the Chamber of Horrors on the Lakefront with a tipoff scheduled at 7 p.m.
