The UAB Blazers recorded a 67-60 victory over the Tulane Green Wave in a Conference USA
contest at Fogleman Arena Saturday afternoon before a crowd announced at 1,651.
Lawrence Kinnard scored 25 and Paul Delaney scored 21 points and handed out nine assists for
the Blazers, now 10-7 overall and 2-1 in C-USA. Tulane's record falls to 7-7 overall, 0-2 in
C-USA.
Kinnard hit on 4-of-8 3-point attempts and also grabbed 8 rebounds.
Kevin Sims led the Green Wave in scoring with 11 points, and was the only Tulane player to
score in double figures.
Chris Moore, Robinson Louisme, and Matt Wheaton scored 9 points for Tulane, while senior
Andrew Garcia added 8.
The Blazers limited Tulane's David Gomez to only 5 points but Gomez did grab 13 rebounds.
UAB out rebounded the Wave 44-39.
Both teams struggled from the floor during the first half, with UAB shooting only 25 percent and Tulane shooting only 31.3 percent.
The teams were tied 28-28 at the half, although Tulane took a 28-22 lead on a pair of Drew
Garcia free throws with 2:27 remaining. But a 5-point scoring outburst by Kinnard, and a free throw by Frank Holmes with twelve seconds remaining evened the score.
In the second half, UAB warmed up, hitting 47.8 percent of its attempts from the field for
a seven-point victory. Tulane was never able to take the lead in the second half.
The Blazers scored 21 points off 14 Tulane turnovers.
Tulane will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 17, when they visit the East Carolina
University Pirates in Greenville, N.C. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
