Gomez was 7-of-14 shots from the floor, as the Green Wave, now 9-9 overall and 2-2 in C-USA, broke a two-game losing streak.
Rice's record falls to 10-9 overall and 4-2 in C-USA.
Tulane held Rice to a frigid 20.8 percent shooting effort from the floor in the first half, as the Owls were only able to hit on 5 of their 24 first half field goal attempts. Tulane shot 45 percent from the floor in the first half, and took a commanding 35-12 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, the Green Wave made 51.9 percent of their field goal attempts (14-of-27), to stay basically even with the Owls who heated up to make 16 of their 30 attempts (53.3 percent). The Green Wave also shot well from the charity stripe, making 12of their 14 second half attempts from the line as they held on for a 20-point triumph.
Tulane outrebounded the Owls, 45-26, and scored 17 points on second chance shots to Rice's 9. The Green Wave also edged Rice 17-10 in points scored off turnovers.
The Green Wave return to the the basketball court Wednesday, Jan. 31, when the Tulsa Golden Hurricane visit Fogleman Arena. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
