The Tulane Green Wave dropped their Conference USA opener to Conference USA rival Houston
Cougars by the score of 34-10 Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome before a crowd announced
at 21,311.
For the second game in a row Tulane, now 0-2, couldn't get it's offense untracked. The Green
Wave was held scoreless until the fourth quarter after failing to score in the second half of their opener against Mississippi State.
Scott Elliott, Tulane's starting quarterback continued to be bedeviled by dropped passes. Elliottwas relieved in the fourth quarter by backup Anthony Scelfo.
Kevin Moore, a redshirt freshman quarterbacked the Green Wave during the final two possessions of the game and accounted for Tulane's only touchdown, a six-yard connection to Chris Dunn in the end

Running back Matt Forte gained 5 yards on 17 carries and caught four passes for 22 yards.
Receiver Casey Robottom continued to improve his standing among the Green Wavew receiving
corps. Robottom finished with four catches for 115 yards.
Defensively the Green Wave was led by middle linebacker Evan Lee with twelve tackles and
strong safety David Skehan who added six tackles and a pair of red zone interceptions. Corner
back Josh Lumar added seven tackles and Matt Harding added six.
The Cougars, now 1-1, gained 505 yards of total offense in establishing a 31-0 lead. The Coogs
were led by senior running back Anthony Alridge, who ran for 87 yards and scored receiving
and rushing touchdowns; and senior receiver Donnie Avery, who caught seven passes for
receiving yards.
Houston's deceptive spread offense caused Tulane's defense fits all night. Houston's purpose
seemed to be finding mismatches between speedy receivers who were being covered by
linebackers or safeties unable to cope with their quickness, or exploiting numerical advantages
that their formations gave them.
Houston's two quarterbacks, Case Keenum and Blake Joseph conbined to throw for 298 yards
and three touchdowns. Keenum started against Tulane, while Joseph got starting honors against
Oregon.
Keenum was 13-of-21 against the Green Wave. He threw for 185 yards, a touchdown and
two interceptions.
Joseph completed 10-of-12 for 113 yards and two touchdowns
The Green Wave played without their best defensive lineman, senior Frank Morton; and
defensive end Sean Carney, who started the Mississippi State game.
The Green Wave returns to action Saturday evening when they take on the Lions of
Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. in the Louisiana Superdome. Because of the dropped passes Elliot finished his night's work only 9-of-23 for 113 yards and two interceptions.
