Lusher Charter School, a secondary school operating on the site of the old Alcee Fortier High School physical plant, has a special relationship with Tulane University.
And today that relationship is set to become closer.
The Brees Dream Foundation, founded by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his wife Brittany, in conjunction with Operation Kids, an international non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children's charities, and focused on "Rebuilding Dreams in New Orleans", will work with selected New Orleans organizations over the next year to fund and rebuild classroom facilities, athletic facilities, parks and playgrounds, after-school programs, mentoring programs for the intellectually disabled, neighborhood revitalization projects and child care facilities.
A generous commitment to fund the 'Rebuilding Dreams in New Orleans' campaign comes from the
The Allstate Foundation.
Among the facilities the Allstate grant will finance are a multi-use, lighted football/baseball/soccer/softball field on the Lusher campus.
That facility will not only serve Lusher's own athletic programs, but it will serve as a practice field for Tulane University, a physical education and recess field for the adjacent New Orleans Charter Science & Math High School and a competitive venue for other neighboring schools and community sports programs. Construction is expected to commence in the spring of 2008.
