Tulane Beats Herd With Big Comeback

Tulane (17-14) overcame a 10-point deficit in a come-from-behind win over Marshall in the opening round of the CUSA Tournament. Point guard Kevin Sims hit the winning freethrows with 6.4 seconds remaining to catapult the Green Wave into the quarterfinals.

Tulane turned it up defensively, holding the Thundering Herd scoreless for the final 6:20 of Wednesday night's opening round contest of the 2008 CUSA Tournament. Offensively, the Green Wave scored the final 11 points of the game to reserve a place in the quarterfinals against Memphis Thursday night.

Tulane was led by Sims' 14 points. Senior forward David Gomez scored 9 points while recording a team 8 rebounds. Donnavan Stith paced the Green Wave defensively with 4 blocked shots and 3 steals. Gomez added 3 blocks and a steal.

Tipoff for Thursday night's game against Memphis is scheduled for 6 p.m.
