Green Wave Takes Pair From Demons

Posted Mar 13, 2008

Tulane junior outfielder Warren McFadden ripped a 2-out rbi single in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Green Wave a 4-3 victory against in-state rival Northwestern State Tuesday night. The Green Wave then outslugged the Demons Wednesday night to capture an 18-11 victory against the Demons, running Tulane's record to 10-5.

Junior starting pitcher Jonathan Garrett did not receive the decision Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, but gave the Green Wave another quality start. Garrett pitched 6.0 strong innings, giving up 7 hits and only one run, while recording 5 strikeouts. Reliever Nick Pepitone ran his record to 2-0, pitching the final two scoreless innings.

Wednesday night the Green Wave offense woke up, smashing Demon pitchers for a season-high 23 hits. Freshman third baseman Rob Segedin tied a school record going 6-for-6 with a double, a homerun, 6 rbi, and 2 runs scored. Junior leftfielder Anthony Scelfo went 5-for-6 with a double, a homerun, one rbi, and 5 runs scored. Junior designated hitter Andrew Rodgers also had a big night for the Wave going 3-for-3, with 3 walks, 2 homeruns, while knocking in 5 runs and scoring 5 more.

Tulane opens a three-game series against Oakland University Friday evening at 6 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
