Green Wave Takes Series With Blazers

Tulane (18-8, 2-1) takes high-scoring series against UAB (9-15, 1-6) 2-1 as the Green Wave opens CUSA play. Shortstop/Second baseman Seth Henry has a big weekend, going 5-for-12, batting .583, with 2 walks, 4 doubles, a homerun, 5 runs, and 4 rbi.

The Green Wave took the opening game of the series 8-7 as the Green Wave pounded Blazer pitching for 4 homeruns. Green Wave ace Shooter Hunt improved his record to 4-0, but struggled with his control in 6 innings of work. Despite giving up 6 walks, Hunt only surrendered 2 hits while striking out 7 Blazers. Reliever Mason Griffin pitched 3 innings to record his fifth save of the season.

Offensively, Tulane was led by designated hitter Andrew Rodgers who went 3-for-4 with 2 homeruns, one walk, 3 runs and 3 rbi. Shortstop Seth Henry went 2-for-3 with a double, a homerun, one walk, one run, and 2 rbi. Rightfielder Scott Powell also homered, stole 2 bases, scored 3 runs, and had one rbi.

Saturday, UAB scored 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth off reliever Mason Griffin to secure an 8-7 come-from-behind victory. Freshman pitcher Robby Broach came on in relief for starter Aaron Loup in the fifth inning and pitched 3.0 outstanding inning, surrendering only one run while recording 5 strikeouts.

The Green Wave was led offensively by shortstop Seth Henry who finished the afternoon 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, 2 runs, and one rbi. Designated hitter Andrew Rodgers had another big day at the plate going 3-for-5 with 2 runs and an rbi.

Sunday, the high scoring continued as the two teams combined for 26 hits. Tulane was able to stay one step ahead of the Blazers and never trailed in the 12-10 slugfest. Starting pitcher Jonathan Garrett improved his record to 2-1 while reliever Preston Claiborne pitched 4.0 innings to record his second save of the season.

Offensively, catcher Jared Dyer led the Green Wave going 3-for-5 with a double, a homerun, 3 runs, and 5 rbi. Rightfielder Drew Allain went 3-for-5 with a double and 3 runs scored. Once again Seth Henry came up big at the plate going 2-for-5 with 2 doubles, 2 runs, and an rbi.

Tulane returns to action Tuesday, April 1, at 6 p.m. against McNeese State at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
