Tulane salvaged Saturday's game 7-5 with an outstanding performance from sophomore southpaw Matt Petiton. Petiton came in to relieve Jonathan Garrett in the fourth inning and promptly walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. However, Petiton recovered nicely and retired the next 18 batters he faced. Petiton finished with 6.0 innings pitched, no hits, and a season-high 6 strikeouts. Offensively, Anthony Scelfo led the Green Wave, going 3-for-5 with a triple, 2 runs, and 2 rbi.
Tulane dropped the rubber match Sunday 11-7 as the Cougars outhit the Green Wave 16-13. Tulane led 5-3 after 3 innings, but Houston scored 3 runs in the fourth, three in the sixth, and two more in the seventh. Aaron Loup (2-3) was the losing pitcher. First baseman Sam Honeck led Tulane at the plate, going 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, a sacrifice, 3 runs, and an rbi.
Tulane returns to action Tuesday, April 15th at 6 p.m. against Southeastern Louisiana at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
