| Tulane Takes Series From Golden Eagles | ||||

Tulane improved its record to 27-12-1 overall and 6-5-1 in confernce play taking this weekend's series 2-1 against Southern Mississippi at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. Tulane took the opener 4-3 behind 7.0 strong innings by Shooter Hunt (6-1) who struck out a career-high 12 batters while giving up only 2 runs. | ||||

Tulane never trailed jumping out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Mason Griffin recorded his sixth save of the season, pitching the final 2.0 innings, recording 3 strikeouts. Leftfielder Drew Allain went 3-for-3 with one walk and third baseman Rob Segedin went 2-for-4 with one run, one rbi, and a stolen base. Saturday, the Green Wave again prevailed as Matt Petiton was awarded the win after giving up just one earned run in 6.2 innings of work. Segedin recorded his second save of the season, pitching 2.0 perfect innings and striking out 3 Golden Eagle batters. Segedin also paced Tulane offensively, going 2-for-4 with a homerun, one run, and 2 rbi. Sunday, Tulane dropped the series finale 10-8 despite outhitting USM 14-5. Jonathan Garrett (2-2) was saddled with the loss. Reliever Preston Claibourne was impressive entering in the fourth inning and pitching 3.2 hitless innings while recording 4 strikeouts. Offensively, the Green Wave was led by Segedin who went 3-for-4 with a walk, a homerun, one run, and 2 rbi to cap an impressive weekend at the plate. Catcher Jared Dyer was 2-for-4 with a homerun, a sacrifice fly, one run, and 2 rbi. Designated hitter Andrew Rodgers was 2-for-5 with a homerun, one run, and one rbi. Tulane returns to action Tuesday, April 22, against arch-rival LSU at 6 p.m. at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. |
