| Knights Avoid Sweep | ||||

Tulane (32-14-1, 10-6-1) looked quite impressive in the first two games of the weekend series against Central Florida (28-21, 5-15), taking Friday's game 5-2 and Saturdays contest 6-1. However, Sunday was a totally different story as UCF scored six runs in each of the first two innings to foil the Green Wave's bid for a series sweep. | ||||

Winning pitcher Shooter Hunt (8-1) pitched seven scoreless innings Friday night before giving up the Knights only two runs. Hunt recorded six strikeouts before giving way to reliever Mason Griffin who struck out 4 of the 7 batters he faced. Freshman Rob Segedin struck out the only batter he faced to record his third save of the season. Offensively, centerfielder Anthony Scelfo, first baseman Sam Honeck, and leftfielder Warren McFadden each homered for the Green Wave. Saturday, Tulane scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break open a 1-1 tie. Winning pitcher Matt Petiton (6-0) was outstanding, pitching a complete game, surrendering only 4 hits and one run while recording 4 strikeouts. First baseman, Sam Honeck, went 2-for-3, with one walk, a double, a homerun, a stolen base, 2 runs, and one rbi. Centerfielder Anthony Scelfo also homered in the contest. Central Florida took the final game of the series 12-1. Offensively, the Green Wave could only manage one run on three hits in 7 innings. Freshman Robby Broach recorded the loss dropping his record to 5-2. Broach gave up 6 runs in just two-thirds of an inning of work. Reliever Preston Claiborne gave up five runs in one inning. Tulane returns to action Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. as the Green Wave hosts UNO. |
