Posted May 22, 2008

Marshall (27-28-1) dominated Tulane (36-19-1) 10-5 Wednesday night in the opening round of the 2008 Entergy Conference USA Championship Tournament. Marshall led 4-0 before the Green plated their first run in the bottom of the fourth and never trailed.

Marshall starting pitcher Steve Blevins (9-3) pitched a complete game, recording 8 strikeouts. Shortstop Adam Yeager was 2-for-3 with five stolen bases.

Green Wave ace Shooter Hunt (9-3) gave up 6 runs in 6 innings, despite striking out 9 Marshall batters. Reliever Taylor Rogers replaced Preston Claiborne in the seventh and pitched the final 2.2 innings, giving up only one hit. Offensively, the Green Wave was led by first baseman Sam Honeck who went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, 2 runs, and an rbi.

Tulane was scheduled to face Central Florida today at 12:30 p.m., but the game was delayed due to inclimate weather. Tournament action will resume as soon as the weather moves through the area.
