| A high school teammate of Tulane backup quarterback Scott Elliott, Brinkley was a two-way player for the Bay City Black Cats and one of 10 Black Cats to be named to the 24-4A All-District first team and one of 15 'Cats to make one or another all-district team. Brandon was a first team selectee on both offense and defense after catchiong 24 passes and snaring 4 interceptions..
Brandon was a unanimous all-district defenseive selection after a junior season in which he played safety and made 5 interceptions.
