One of the best in the Tulane secondary, a fierce tackler against the run who also has
good cover skills, Israel Route is a link in the chain of Stephenson High School products that have played for the Green Wave in recent seasons, including Sean Lucas, Anthony Cannon, and recent signee Andre Anderson.
And Izzy has been one of the more productive players in the Green Wave secondary the past three seasons, despite having basically played on a part-time basis. Izzy played in 10 games in 2005 and made 8 starts at cornerback.
Took over as Tulane's primary punt and kick returner in 2005 after Fred Smith suffered
a knee injury in preseason camp. Returned 18 punts, averaging 10.1 yards per return, and 23 kickoffs, averaging 22.3 per kick return. Scored on a 97-yard kickoff return against Southeast Louisiana.
Izzy also saw action on the Green Wave cover units in previous seasons.
Now the the Green Wave defense's leading returning tackler from 2005, and has recorded at least 40 tackles in each of his first three seasons. Altogether Izzy's played in 31 career games and made 14 starts. Career totals are 134 tackles, 6 tackles for losses, made 1 sack, caused 3 fumbles, recovered 2 fumbles, 2 interceptions, and broken up 14 passes.
Made an immediate impact as a true freshman in 2003 when he won the regular nickleback
job, and won Conference USA All-Freshman honors for his performance that season.
